How I work

The process, the partnership, and how your travel investment is handled.

Nice to meet you. I’m J.R., Your Travel Guy. This page is here so our first conversation is useful, whether it’s a trip, a group, or an event. If we work together, you’ll already know how planning feels, what I handle, what I need from you, and how the money side works.

Dream big. Travel easy.

How a trip comes together

  1. Discovery. You complete the Traveler Interest Form: dates, travelers or guests, the kind of trip or event, the feeling you want, and a comfortable investment range. I read it before we speak.

  2. Refinement. A 15-30 minute conversation. I clarify your style, timing, and whether this is the right fit. You get a recap of our conversation to confirm or correct.

  3. Core booking. Hotels, cruise staterooms, and flights come first, so the rest of the trip has a solid foundation. You review a proposal with inclusions and exclusions.

  4. Experiences. Tours, private guides, dining, and the moments that become the story.

  5. Finishing touches. Transfers, reservations, celebrations, and surprises.

  6. Departure. Destination notes and documents arrive before you leave. Once you’re traveling, or your event begins, I stay in contact from the time you leave until you return.

What I need from you

The best trips happen when both sides do their part. If this list feels fair, we’ll get along well.

  • Start with the form, not a long email.

  • Name a comfortable investment range. A range isn’t a commitment; it keeps my recommendations honest.

  • If I design it, I book it.

  • Give me names that match passports. Flag any error within 24 hours of booking.

  • Decide by supplier deadlines. Holds expire and inventory moves.

  • Confirm itineraries and details with me.

  • Own your passports, visas, and entry requirements.

  • Choose travel protection, or tell me you’re declining it.

This isn’t a fit for price-only shopping, or for collecting a custom itinerary to book elsewhere. I’d rather decline kindly than do that work poorly.

What I plan

Luxury — hotels, resorts, villas, honeymoons, private touring.

Cruises — Disney, Royal Caribbean, Virgin Voyages, MSC, Norwegian, Princess, plus river and expedition.

Europe — Italy, Switzerland, Spain, the Mediterranean, rail-linked journeys.

Groups — reunions, alumni at sea, friend trips, room blocks.

Events — conferences, corporate gatherings, destination events. I can start with a group or event even when the details aren't set.

How the money works

Your investment is the trip.

Planning is at no charge to you for standard leisure trips. I’m compensated by the cruise lines, hotels, tour operators, and other suppliers you travel with. You pay the same publicly available rate, and often receive preferred-partner amenities you wouldn’t see booking on your own.

The one request: if I design it, you book it through me. That’s how the research, supplier work, and advocacy are recognized.

Destination weddings, conferences, large reunions, and highly complex itineraries may be scoped as a project. If that’s your trip, I’ll say so on our call, in writing, before any design work begins. No surprise invoices.

Ready to begin?

Two honest minutes on the form below is all it takes to start. I read every one before I reply.

It is a privilege to be Your Travel Guy.

The 3 Pillars of the Planning Process

  • Consultative

I listen first. Then I recommend what fits, not a package that doesn’t.

  • Clear expectations

Process, timing, and next steps are clearly communicated. No guessing.

  • One point of contact

From the form through the flight home, you work with me.
