What Makes a Trip "Luxury"? (Hint: It's Not the Robe)
Luxury is not a thread count or a fluffy robe. It is a trip that feels effortless, personal, and well looked after from the first email to the ride home.
Don't get me wrong. I enjoy a good robe. But I have never heard anyone say, "That was the trip of a lifetime, mostly because of the slippers." What people remember is how the trip felt.
What luxury actually looks like
Time, handled well. Smooth arrivals, sensible pacing, and no standing in a line that someone could have planned around.
Access. A great guide, a table you could not get on your own, or a quiet hour at a famous place before the crowds arrive.
The right room, not just a fancy one. Location, view, and setting often matter more than the number of stars.
Details that feel personal. Someone remembered the anniversary, the allergy, or the fact that you hate early mornings.
Someone in your corner. If plans change, a real person fixes it, and you do not spend your vacation on hold.
Does luxury have to be expensive?
Luxury usually does come with a higher price tag, but the best trips are not simply the most costly ones. A thoughtfully designed trip with the right hotel in the right spot often beats a pricier one that was booked without a plan. I will always tell you where a splurge makes a difference and where it does not.
Who is luxury travel for?
Honeymooners, milestone anniversaries, multigenerational celebrations, friends marking a big birthday, and anyone who simply wants the trip done beautifully. It is not just for one type of traveler. It is for anyone who values their time and wants it to count.
How I plan it
I start by listening: who is going, what the occasion is, and what a perfect day looks like for you. Then I design the trip around that. Planning is at no charge, and if I design it, I book it, so one person is responsible for making the pieces fit together.
